Our Green Roof

About the Green Roof:

A green roof can host a beautiful setting, as well as educate those about the environment. Our plan is to have a GreenGrid green roof located on an L-shaped portion of the high school roof just off of the greenhouse. Many classrooms would have astounding views of the green roof, furthering its outreach.  For more information about green roofs and their environmental benefits, please visit the official GreenGrid website, greengridroofs.com

GreenEducation

Education at Beloit Memorial

A green roof would be an invaluable learning tool for our school. Native plants of Wisconsin could show students our state's natural history.  Temperature gauges, solar panels, and nature wetlands would all further these learning opportunities. Science classes would record and use data in the classroom.  Business classes would study the cost-effectiveness of green projects like this one. All of these opportunities exist with a project like this.

GreenUse

Use at Beloit Memorial

More than an asset to just the high school, a BMHS green roof would be a gem the entire community could celebrate.  It would be a beautiful centerpiece for the high school, the river, and Beloit. From painting and poetry to science and technical education, this project would easily have the ability to continuously involve a wide range of Beloit Memorial's constituents.

GreenPerception

The Environment and BMHS Perception

Obvious benefits to the natural environment aside (reducing storm water run-off, reducing heating and cooling costs, eliminating the urban heat-island effect, etc.), a green roof on the high school would improve Beloit Memorial's profile and would effect its public perception. An environmental education setting such as this would rival that of any other high school's in the nation. Besides bringing positive press, it would educate students about different energy-conserving technologies, water recycling ways, and the world of natural wonder.
